Carnivorous Plant Pop-up Scenes with John

As a wildlife photographer and nature lover, John recently attended the Charlotte Regional Farmers Market from 8:30am-1pm with a one day only pop-up shop from Carnivorous Plants by Kenny Coogan. There was a display of different insect eating plants like butterworts, tropical pitcher plants, sundews, venus flytraps and North American pitcher plants. While at the pop-up shop attendees were able to purchase and learn how to grow them at home. 

Going to this event added a different layer to wildlife photography for John since he was able to actually witness plants eating insects/subjects he’d normally photograph on any given day. Additionally, he’s naturally a morning person so it was nothing to get up to spread awareness about native NC plants and support a small business. He captured photos on a Canon R6 III with a Canon RF 100mm lens and for the video, he used .6x speed on a Galaxy S 23 Ultra. For his camera exposure settings, his shutter speed remained at 1/200 with an F9 aperture and auto ISO. 

John had a hunch that the event was going to be really busy, really early. To avoid a potential challenge, he got there even earlier to have a better opportunity to see the pop-up shop and enjoy the festivities. Ultimately, he was right, the market was shoulder to shoulder by 8:15am. One piece of advice he’d like to leave you with, ”Do the uncomfortable thing because if you think about it too much you'll talk yourself out of it and end up regretting your choice.“ Visit John's instagram page to see more beautiful wildlife, @j.h.l.photography
